Release date:2020-03-12 | source:China Light Network
Samsung Electronics has added EPISTAR of Taiwan as a supplier of Micro LED chips, which will be used in its Micro LED TV series. By expanding the Micro LED supply chain, the world ’s largest TV manufacturer may be preparing to launch to consumers the Micro LED TV that was exhibited at CES in January this year.

As a self-luminous display technology, Micro LED has a series of advantages compared to current TV technology, including the high brightness and wide color gamut coverage of QLED and the deep black and sharp contrast of OLED, and there is no burning Screen risk. In addition, low power consumption and modular design are also special advantages of Micro LED.

However, the manufacture of Micro LED TV is very difficult and very expensive, and its price will far exceed the range of ordinary consumers, which is also an important reason to prevent it from becoming a mainstream display technology. However, with the diversification of the parts supply chain, the cost will gradually decrease with the improvement of production capacity and the improvement of technological level.

The joining of EPISTAR will provide a huge boost to Samsung ’s 75, 88, 93 and 110-inch Micro LED TV product lines.

Before this, Samsung's Micro LED suppliers have been PlayNitride in Taiwan and San’an Optoelectronics in China.
